Accolades Public Relations is focused on providing top-tier communications services to our diverse client list, which is why we try to keep our eyes open for events that can be of great benefit to our clients. The Ubiquity Marketing unSummit: How Local Entrepreneurs can Save the World and Pay the Rent in any Economic Climate is an event that is bringing together some of the industry’s principal thought leaders to provide insight into some of the most innovative and strategic marketing techniques that are taking traditional marketing campaigns to the next level.

Among the speakers will be Chris Brogan, president of New Marketing Labs, a new media marketing agency and our very own Cynthia Baker, president and founder of Accolades Public Relations in Austin, TX. Cynthia’s presentation “Engage, therefore I am” will discuss how word-of-mouth techniques can leverage every day personal relationships as a physical or virtual event.

The event will be on Thursday, September 3 at the Shoreline Grill in Austin. One of my favorite promotional tools they’ve created for this event is a viral video. It’s extremely well made and get their message across in a creative and thought provoking manner.
Wish there was a Survival Guide on how to use social media? There is! Deltina Hay's new book, A Survival Guide to Social Media and Web 2.0 Optimization provides the how-to strategies and tools for success on the Web.

I attended Deltina Hay’s book signing at BookPeople in Austin last week. Her talk brought home the power of social media once again. Optimizing your presence on a ring of social media sites has the potential of pushing you to the top of search rankings. Your Web site’s natural search may not get you where you want to be, but the consistent tagging of content on Facebook, Twitter, deli.cio.us, your blog, Flickr and YouTube – all combined can make the difference.

For many, the stumbling block is how to get started. They lament that they just don’t know how to use the tools of social media. Where does one get educated on this stuff?

I am proud to say that our client, Deltina Hay, has the answers for small to mid-sized businesses. Many theoretical books about social media leave the the reader in a fog as how to set up and use particular social media tools. What a relief that Deltina took on the larger task of creating a book that actually empowers the reader step-by-step on how to use open source tools for promoting themselves online. Her pragmatic, book complete with print screen images and resource CD provides the tools to make it happen.

She aptly named it “A Survival Guide to Social Media and Web 2.0 Optimization“. You don’t have to buy it … but a professor teaching social media to her students at a local college told me that she will be using it as her textbook next Fall.

Accolades PR Delivers Successful Campaign to Interactive Austin 2009

Austin, Texas, April 29, 2009 — Accolades PR, a results-oriented communications firm committed to progressive strategies in public relations and marketing, announced today the completion of a very successful public relations and social media campaign for Interactive Austin 2009.

Interactive Austin 2009 took place on Monday, April 27th and delivered to attendees much needed insight during these economic times on how social media can enhance their business and marketing strategies and add to their bottom line. The Keynotes consisted of well-known Web 2.0 gurus Dion Hinchcliffe of Hinchcliffe and Company, Sam Lawrence formerly of Jive Software, and William Hurley (Whurley) of BMC Software.

In addition, the conference’s distinguished roster of area presenters from a wide spectrum of regional companies offered their industry expertise, updates and practical solutions to address the evolution and impact of social commerce on business productivity.

Supporting Austin organizations including the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, the Austin Technology Council, the Austin Interactive Marketing Association, Booststrap Austin, Leadership Austin and door64 encourage local businesses to attend the event to better understand how to grow their business online.

“There was such a great energy at the conference as the Who’s Who of Social Media shared their knowledge and their strategies for building a successful business through Enterprise, blogging and other prominent social media tools,” states Accolades PR president and founder Cynthia Baker. “It is always exciting when amazing talent from companies and organizations such as Southwest Airlines, Cohn and Wolf, and BMC Software come together in one place to educate, share and network.”

Accolades PR put together a social media and public relations campaign that involved an online newsroom, Twittering, and open blog, as well as optimized press releases. The successful campaign brought not only extensive coverage to the event but assisted in attendance of around 250, nearly doubling last year’s conference attendance.
